Sam - Eximius Sesame Sam - 06/01/12 - 15/08/13

Variety: Agouti

Sam came to me with his brother Bean from Lloyd at Eximius.  I was badly wanting an agouti top ear after loosing Loki some time ago and was overjoyed when several were born in the litter.  We immediately clicked and so he came home with Bean and me.  From day one he was an energetic explorer, always busy and doing something.  During the building works on our house he went through a shy spell but was still very entertaining and sweet.

We ruled Sam out from breeding early on, it was nothing in particular, just lots of little things adding up, a few abscesses  the odd nasal snottiness and he was a little shyer in new circumstances than his brother Bean. He also started showing his age very early on, though kept active and fit despite it. Despite this in his later life he became a true favourite at shows, he wasn't entered (due to him not enjoying the show tank experience  but absolutely adored being fussed over by humans and made many friends.

One day I noticed Sam passing blood, we tried several different meds and even an ultrasound scan to find out what was going on but they didn't help.  Soon afterwards he began breathing heavily and I took the decision to say good bye, his PM revealed tumours in his lungs, though couldn't explain the blood being passed.

Bean - SCh Eximius Bean Counter 06/01/12 - 25/04/13

Variety: Silvered Black

Bean joined me along with his brother Sam from Eximius rattery, he was born from Katy (my Thom's sister) and Bracken ( my Astreaus' brother). He was the biggest lad in the litter and a really solid handsome guy.  As a youngster he was a lovely, friendly and calm boy, a little less manic than his brother and very mature for his age, reminding me a lot of a young Limi. After loosing Astreaus he became an incredibly good alpha, calmly looking after the cage, with barely a wibble as he took over the reigns.   He did well at shows, winning Stud buck and eventually Stud Buck champion, he also won me the Stud Buck shield at the NERS cup show.

His temperament was really lovely too so we were very much looking forward to babies from him, he was mated to Lovecraft Puck at Lovecraft rattery but she never took.  This proved very fortunate as within a week of the mating he began to make odd respy noises.  After trying pretty much every option both me and the vets could think off we had him put to sleep as his breathing was getting worse, the PM finding a lump pushing against him throat.
